Leggins: Stockmann
Klänning under: 2nd hand fynd
Klänning på: New Yorker
Kavaj: Zara
matrjoška smycke: Gamla stan i Tallinn
Scarf: Stockmann

Oktoberfest 2010

Yesterday Fra, I and some friends from München visited the 200th Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest is a 2 week long festival held every autumn in München, in Germany.

We arrived early in the day, so we started by visiting the city. I admired all the beautiful buildings and noticed that München has to be a great city where to shop! I mean, all brands you can ever think of were just there. In front of your nose. I have to take my girlfriends and mother there for a shopping spree. With beer thirsty men I didn’t even mention my need of checking out the clothes :)

We went to a famous biergarten for a beer. In a biergarten you sit by wooden tables, eat some saussages and sing drinking songs and drink beer, naturally. There was a lot of fun but after 1 liter of beer we continued our way to the real Oktoberfest area.

The Oktoberfest festival area is like an amusement park, with all the amusement park machines, the food, the candy, the show. In the back of this area, there are big houses, one house for each beer brand. You can buy beer in 1 liter glasses and german traditional food. A band is playing traditional drinking songs and everyone is having a good time. So did we.

The funny thing is that all Germans wear traditional costumes to the festival, so the place is packed with med in leather pants and women in dresses.

At some point in the early night it started to rain and when the place looked like this:

And my feet were starting to be so wet that there was not even a point to keep up the umbrella any more,

We went dancing. All 7 of us. We drunk more beer, talked about cultural differences, work in Europe and danced. Oh boy, that booty got shaken. Great night.

The Wedding

Last Saturday I attended an Italian wedding for the first time in my life. Actually a catholic wedding also for that matter. It was Fra’s best friend Giovanni who maried his lovely Sonia, a couple that I consider as my close friends. Fra was the bestman, which also made the party even more interesting :)

The ceremony in the church was very different from what I was used to but utterly adorable. And the church was so beutiful, filled with flowers.

Luckily the Italians believe in a happy marriage if it rains on the wedding day (sposi bagnati, sposi fortunati) cause it poured down all day.

What can I say? The bride was beutiful, the party was vivid and the food was delicious. I wish Sonia and Giovanni all the best <3
Bridesmades

The 3 best friends. Angelo (the driver at the wedding), Giovanni (the groom) and Fra (the bestman).

The happy couple. Sonia had a big butterfly on the dress, very adorable, very Sonia.

The dress from behind. I like all the layers of thin fabric.

Me :)

The vanilla cream cake was huge! And yummie :)

Friday

I was really happy to spend Friday by myself in Milan! My lunch date also got cancelled, which was sad at first, but the day turned out to be amazing to spend by mylself! I started the morning with a Metro ride and there are no words how much I HATE tha Milan metro (subway). The wagons are completely packed, no air-conditioning (only in the newest ones that are now being used in the new lines…) no places to sit. I feel often completely claustrophobic, irritated on all the pushing and when that first drop of sweat falls down my back I could just scream… this time though, I just smiled. It was so amazing to be back, feeling those things and remembering how the life used to be there.

I had a nice breakfast in a very Italian way. Walk into the cafeteria, say ”Un cappuccio e una brioche alla crema, per cortesia”, eat your filled croissant and drink your cappuccino standing by the counter, talking some chit chat with the people around, leaving a few coins, wishing a good day and walking out.

Anyway, to the point. I started my day at La Rinascente, the department store, that is situated in the centre of Milan next to il Duomo. La Rinascente is filled with great fashion labels, that actually doesn’t interest me at all, but the ground floor is the treasure of the place. A room filled with architecture, art and design books, china from different manufactures around the world (also Iittala from Finland), products of different designers, art, stationery, luggage, you name it.

After that I walked in the centre for hours, in probably all the stores you can find and ate a panino for lunch. I bought 3 pairs of pants that made me so happy. I needed them so badly and it is always a hard task to find something that fits perfectly. I also bought a woolen sweater for the colder period and now I can wear all my ruffle, lace, sweet, thin, silk tops under it, to make it look good, not to freeze and not having the need of buying lots of new things. I also found the blue scarf I was looking for for the Saturday’s wedding.

After lunch I took the metro to Buonarroti and walked on my old home street. I was surprised how many new cafeterias and shops there were and how the old ones had changed their looks. That’s what the end of the summer does, only 3 months ago, things were still as they used to. I went to buy some water from the old supermercato and there I was recognized, which was funny.

After all the walking since morning I started to feel tired so I swung one espresso down my throat and I went to my favorite place in the whole Milan. It is a park close to my old place with a water fountain kind of thing in the middle. I had a short, rough period while living there and when this person who caused all the trouble for me hurted me day after day I used to go to this place to cry and talk to my parents. Now it was fun to sit there for an hour, reading my book, following the dogs in the dog park and enjoying the perfect sunny autumn weather.

Then I was up for shop hoping again! This time all small shops around Corso Vercelli followed by un gelato in Gelateria Marghera. And when there were nothing more to see I returned to la Rinascente to get a few cups to my espresso cup collection. I seriously have to soon get a shell for all of them to get them on display in my apartment.

After all the ”touristing” in Milan I was ready to take a long shower, change to comfortable and nice clothes ang go out with Fra to have a romantic dinner and that is exactly what we did when he returned from work.

Thursday

Hi, I’m back! I took Thursday and Friday off work (as I had some vacation days to use). On Thursday I lived a real princess life, starting the morning with a long bath, a trip to the cosmetolog for a facial and driving slowly to Milan enjoying the mountain view and stopping here and there in the Swiss villages for a hot tea (I am still, for the 4th week a bit sick).

I arrived to milan around 4 p.m and had a nice few hours to spend there by myself. I started with a furniture flea market to see if they would have any wooden chairs but I wasn’t lucky to find any. After that I bought a pair of leather boots and a matching leather handbag from my favorite shop on Via Rembrant. I really needed them! I had only two pairs of shoes for this autumn weather and one of them are unacceptable in the office.

I also visited Zara Home and admired the things for hours. I finally bought cups and plates, that I needed, as I had too few from the same series…

Finally, I went home to Fra, had a nice dinner and then off to Beyond’s practice. I hadn’t heard Beyond play for a long time and the new songs where certainly a treat for the ears. A very relaxing day (and night) to start the mini-vacation.

Ihminen on laumaeläin

opiskeluaikoinani Milanossa. Milanossa asuminen oli hauskaa kaikin
puolin, jopa jotkut silloin tuntuneet ikävät asiat tuntuvat nytten
hauskoilta tai saavat ainakin hymyn tai naurun aikaan. Kaikella on

tahansa (paitsi ehhä Bottega Venetan liikkeeseen Via
Montenapoleonella. Siellä aina nyrpistettiin nenää) toiseksi istuin
luennoilla satojen muiden saman kiinnostuksen kohteen omaavien ja
saman ikäisten ihmisten kanssa. Oli siis erittäin helppoa avata
keskustelu jostakin vaikka ei edes kieltä osanut hyvin. Olen
edelleenkin tänä päivänä viikottain yhteydessä esimerkiksi ystävääni
Philippiin johon tutustuin sanomalla “vähäks sulla on kiva sanakirja”
:)

paikallista murretta, minua mulkoillaan pahasti/painetaan punaista
luuria/ minulle nauretaan.

jutella!
