the cold kicks in

It's still raining here. The sky is falling down, you cannot see the Alps, villages are getting evacuated, the insurance companies have vivid conversations about water in cellars and we wear jeans and sweaters... and right now, I have also woolen cloths on me!

Asuntouutisia

Vuokrasopimukseni on monta sivua pitkä, jossa käydään läpi jokaikinen asia mitä kaukainen mielikuvitus voikaan keksiä.

I have today signed the lease of my apartment. I am actually quite proud of this, because the bureaucracy in this country is insane! I will show more pictures of the place, when I have properly moved in. Here is anyway a shot from my bathroom. The same beige tiles are everywhere on the floors in the apartment.

Mamma

My mum was visiting during the weekend. Unfortunately, it rained cats and dogs. Most of the time. We did all the things you can possible do on such weather: drove around by car checking out places around, sat in cafeterias and restaurants and enjoyed something delicious and went shopping for umbrellas and rubber boots :)

On Saturday eve we saw the coolest version of the Aida opera ever! The scene was built on water, by the big Bodensee-lake. The actors were part of the time under water, part of the time on the water surface and part of the time high up in the air! The spectacle was amazing to experience! Even though both my mum and I have been used to wear something more fancy to the opera than 6 pairs of woollen sweaters, rain coats and rubber boots :)

Fra and his mum came here on Sunday. We went by cableway up to the panorama restaurant to have lunch, all four of us. We ate also ice cream in the city and checked out my new apartment.
Morning in the city. Raining :)

Breakfast in the rain...

You need a jacket and a scarf, when it is so cold...

Enjoying something delicious...again :)

Dagens Outfit. Austria update.

Ballerinas: NewYorker

My life in Austria has been for the past days a true rollercoaster.

I have been contacting all good apartments I have found to be rented. I have had the opportunity to see a few terrible ones as well as I have gotten phonecalls ”don’t come in an hour to watch the apartment, we rented it already”. But today. Oh, guys, today. I found just what I’m looking for. The perfect house. It is a big apartment with completely new materials, new kitchen, new shower, bathtub. It has an inner yard and a parkingplace. It is perfect. I hope I will get it!

I had a difficult time getting a phone operator provider to accept me as their client. It is not common to have prepaids in Austria. No. They want to make 2 year deals and draw the monthly fee from your bank account. Ok, the prices are low and you always get a (good, new) phone to use with the sim-card. The problem is just that you need an Austrian bank account AND you have to have lived in the country for 3 months. I haven’t. At the 5th company I found a prepaid and now I have finally a really cheap deal :) So if anyone wants my number, comment or mail me and I will text it :)

Does bank accounts cost in every other country than Finland?! Anyway, to open a bank account here is not like in my home country (where I have 3 accounts and not paying anything for any of them…). No. Here you have to be accepted as a client. I had to show them my work contract and prove that my salary is good enough. When this was done, I was offered drinks and all kinds of credit card deals etc… weird.

But I so love it here. The mountains are too beuautiful. The people are so kind. The weather is amazing. The food is delicious. My job is great (I invited people today to a meeting and tomorrow I will inform them on things. Hihi, funny. Me. Keeping meetings.) and I am still in the state, where all tags in the grocery store looks superdesigned, where all street names sounds new, where all restaurant menus sounds fascinating and where all clothes shops seem cheap and fashionable.

Milano

No, Fra löysi mut, hinausauto tuli ja vei Gullen varikolle.

Loppuviikonloppu oli vallan mahtava :)

I had some car trouble on my way to Milan this weekend. A small part that charges the car battery broke and therefore my engine overheated. This happened at one of the worst roads in Italy, a 4 lane highway, full of trucks, with almost no place on the sides to stop. The worst thing was that I had finished all my water so I had to wait for help for 4 hours in the hot weather without anything to drink. The truck drivers yelled all kinds of disgusting proposals and some other weird men asked me out. I was so happy when Fra finally found me and rescued me

Grafisk design...

Baumwolle

I found yesterday the laundry room from this hotel (they have one you can use by yourself) and was able to wash some clothes. The machines spoke only German (of course) and I wasn't really sure on what to push... eh, well, the machine washed my clothes with a long 2.5 hour program :)
today I am going to work a long day, as I have been doing every day now... I want my clock card heavily on the plus side so that I can leave early on friday and drive to Milan. Outfit today:

too hot!

It's so hot here!!! It is completely impossible to do anything that doesn't include air conditioning, cold sea or mountain breezes. Yesterday we forced some tapas and sushi into us, cause it's impossible to eat anything heavy. This morning was nicely cold after a rainy night and we could eat a proper breakfast. And so far, that's pretty much it. Look at the last picture, it's the scene from Aida, that they will start to show in 2 weeks by the Bodensee- lake. Cool huh?

Lichtensteinissä kävimme myös katsomassa missä prinssi asustaa...

Austria, my new love

The view from my hotel room

My past week in Austria has been amazing. Even though I have been going crazy without a proper Internet connection! Here is anyway some news from here :)

Internet: I have of course a computer and an Internet connection at work but everything fun is blocked, like facebook, blogger, all blog sites actually etc… at my hotel the Internet doesn’t work and they have been ”fixing it” for a week now. It feels really weird to be so isolated from the virtual world, I use to be on the fun webpages for many hours every day… now I anyway found a wlan, to surf for a while :)

Work: I like my office a lot. I have been walking to the office (why? See ”Car”), which is so great. I can see the high Alps on my left side and the cows on my right. The cows greet me every morning with a nice ”Ammmuuuu” as well as all the people scream ”Guten Morgen” and waves their hands. My tasks have been quite challenging but I like that. On my 2nd day at work we had a summer party at my bosses place (with about 40 people), everyone drinking beer and laughing and eating and having a blast. The boss hugged me and said that he thinks I fit perfectly our team and that we will get good results. That was after he heard me teaching drinking songs to the guys in swedish :) !!
Walking to work. Notice the tractor :)

The people here: are superhyperintroverts. They (cirka 40 000 people) all know each other and they all have some kind of hate against the rest of the world. Especially people from Wien or Germany. All my collegues are 30 year old men who have attended the same school since they were kids. People speak a dialect that is crrraazy!!! :) It is so crazy, that people from the next village (10 km from here) can’t understand them. Incredible :) I don’t even want to imagine how I will be speaking after a year or so… but even if the people are not very open-minded, they have been supernice to me :)
All people hang out in the town square in the evening. They dress up and meet each other. There are tons of restaurants and concerts. Love it!

My car: is now called ”Gulle” which means Honey/Dear/Sugar in Swedish. My Vespa was called ”Julle” and my motorbike ”Wallu” so it was sure the name should me something like ”Golle” (it’s a Golf) but Gulle is more cute, in my opinion. Nevertheless, Gulle is standing on the yard, without licence plates. In Austria, all villages and cities have their own plates, so I have to get mine from an insurance company nearby. The thing is that all insurance companies have different deals and my lovely new boss is now searching for me the best deal :) And when Gulle is up and running I will start to explore the whole Europe :) One weekend in Milan, one by the ciast in Italy, one is Paris, one in München and so on! :)
Well, if you dont have a car, you can always move in other ways. Here on the way to the Panorama restaurant for dinner.

Living: I live in a hotel, which is okay but it’s anyway not an apartment. I would really like to find an own place soon. Then I can start to decoarte it! Wippiieee!
When it's hot here it's nice to go to the Bodensee lake to freshen up. The beaches are full of nice places...

03/07/2010

Greetings from Austria!

Hello :) I'm sp happy! I have no been in Austria for 3 days. Without a proper Internet connection though. My brother and I drove yesterday and the day before that around to find me a car and we did! Now I'm the proud owner of a older Volkswagen Golf :) Today Fra drove here and the 3 of us went to Bodensee to chill for a bit in the sun. I have also been shopping some shorts and shoes, cause I noticed that I have only packed proper office clothes and nothing "wash the car and chill on Bodensee"-clothes :)
Finnish Lapin Kulta beer in the grocery store ?! Why?

You have to feed your brother icecream with cream, pink icecream and hearts when he helps you to buy a car? huh? :)

New shoes and shorts

My car :)

Chilling at Bodensee :)
