Venezia

A lot of show for nothing, skulle jag säga.

I have visited Venice with my family about 10 yaers ago. I remember that I thought it was the most cool place  I had seen , when there were no roads and cars outside the buildings but water and boats!  During these 10 years I have then gotten the impression that Venice has become a very touristic and expensive city. Expensive in a wrong way. So why not visit Venice again, to see if it is true? I think it's so funny now to live here in Southern Europe where I can visit any city on I just want :) It feels so luxurious.

Anyway, Fra and I took the train from Padua to Venice last Saturday. We took the train because the parking in Venice costs so much (the train was 11.60 euro for two people back and forth). In Venice we had a pleasant surprise: the weather. It was 10-12 degrees (Celsius) outside, no wind and the sun was shining. Wonderful. We started walking here and there on the streets that were not so tourist-packed (yes, the city was packed with tourists also in the middle of winter), that is over the Canal Grande and not along with it.

The city was very dirty but also cute with all the tiny, narrow streets, bridges and all the water here and there. But of course its cool to have a city built on 118 small islands with 354 bridges! :)

After the walk in the quiet (residential) area we visited the tourist sights as the Basilica di San Marco and Piazza San Marco, stood a moment on the Ponte di Rialto, saw a lot of Murano glass art, admired the costumes that were sold in view of the world famous Venice carnival, which takes place in early February and finally we took a sweet kissing picture on the Ponte dell'Accademia. The photo plays an important role for me as the bridge was opened again to my former dog's death day.

Then, it was lunchtime. And wow (!) how hard it was to find a good eating place, as all the little restaurants and cafeterias were overpriced and offered only disgusting things. We had a panino, which was made of dry bread with old cheese and paid lots of it. Our dessert espresso we paid a double price for (compared to the rest of the country).

So it was fun to spend a day in Venice but I have to say that it is a pity that the city has become so touristic, so expensive in the wrong way, so inauthentic. Everything you can see, eat or experience is made for tourists, everything costs a lot and the quality is crap. Sure, the city is cute and adorable, but it was enough to take the train in and out and leave the city in its own value. A lot of show for nothing, I would say.
